Deceuninck commitment to SBTi objectives

Deceuninck has committed to setting ambitious emission reduction targets following the initiative of the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative). Likewise, Deceuninck has joined the "Business Ambition 1.5ºC" campaign together with a group of companies worldwide aligned with the "Paris Climate Agreement Objective" to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Deceuninck committed to the SBTi targets in February 2022, following the carbon emissions inventory developed in 2021. In recent months, Deceuninck has defined the emissions reduction roadmap in line with the Net-Zero standard and already you are prepared to submit these targets to the SBTi for validation.

Emissions linked to our own operations (scope 1 and 2) represent 12% of Deceuninck's carbon footprint. This shows the importance of keeping a close eye on the total value chain and paying special attention to the source of supply of raw materials. Additional recycling efforts will be crucial to reaching our goals.

Deceuninck commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60% by 2030, taking 2021 as the base year. Taking into account the growth expected by the company, a reduction in emissions of 75% per ton of product produced is required. With this objective, Deceuninck exceeds the minimum requirements of SBTi, set at a 42% reduction.

Deceuninck commits to reduce Scope 3 emissions by 48% per tonne of product produced by 2030, taking 2021 as the base year. Maximizing the use of recycled material will be a key criterion to achieve these ambitious goals.

In addition, Deceuninck commits to achieving net zero GHG emissions across the entire value chain by 2050.

Bruno Humblet (CEO Deceuninck): “Answering SBTi's call to create a corporate climate action shows our strong commitment to sustainability. Science-based targets provide us with a framework to evaluate each business decision from a climate mitigation standpoint.

For years, we have been pioneers in the sector thanks to our facilities and recycling policy. The willingness to recycle continues to play a key role in our carbon reduction roadmap, because it means less sourcing of raw materials. We want to lead by being an example in our industry and look forward to taking meaningful climate action together with our suppliers and other stakeholders.”

Céline De Waele (Deceuninck Group Sustainability Manager): “Our carbon reduction roadmap includes investments in energy efficiency, in operations and electrification, in addition to the phase-out of fuel oil, as well as the production and supply of renewable energy.”
